If you own property in a special flood hazard area and have a mortgage, federal law normally requires you to have flood insurance.
Flooding occurs more often than any other natural disaster, and it’s not covered by homeowners insurance. Even if you are not required to purchase flood insurance, your home or business may still be at risk from floods. We recommend that all property owners purchase and keep flood insurance because it is the best means of recovery from flood damage.
